Oct 10, 2007  Here's a step-by-step, up-close look at how to get that gorgeous new HD TiVo box connected to your TV ASAP! (NOTE: This is for the HD box-there is another video to set up the Dual Tuner. Feb 14, 2017 - The initial setup is likely the one stumbling block that Logitech has worked hard on making smooth, and the latest software version really is a.

Directv does not support 3rd party external DVRs for either their TV by satellite service or On Demand content. Since On Demand requires a Directv HDDVR, any external TiVO would be a waste anyway. Directv's last TiVO based HDDVR was the THR22 but is outdated software, does not work with Whole Home DVR at all, and occasionally has issues with On Demand. So you must use Directv proprietary equipment for Directv service. So Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) and regular HDDVRs (most current one HR24) is what you would use for On Demand.

As a caution do not get the Genie-2 (HS17) as it only recently launched, has some post-launch bugs, and does NOT work with HDDVRs so is a downgrade for many people (depending on your exact setup and needs).

For those that aren't aware, the TIVO mini has a single proprietary plug for component output and another one for composite output. There is also an HDMI socket. The mini is pretty small so having 6 RCA plugs in the back would have been a tight fight. Hence the need for these cables. I needed to hook up component to my TV so I hooked up the green/blue/red cable to the component video input and the red/white of the composite cable to the corresponding audio input. Sound and video worked great. These cables can also be ordered $5 cheaper from TIVO but when shipping cost is factored in these end up costing less. From Amazon it arrived the day after I ordered it.

I purchased this product under the belief it was a quality Tivo product. What it really deserves is 0 stars.

The cables sold here are not authentic Tivo cables, but cheap knockoffs that do not work. The composite and the AV cable leave bad quality video. The audio cables constantly buzz. I spent all day thinking there was something wrong with my TV. The caliber of cable is criss-crossed for the AV kit. The composite is a low caliber that is not matched correctly and is not calibrated. If you look at the Tivo website and examine the Tivo manufactured cable you will see it is completely different.

The Tivo kit has horizontal lines that are shaped like a pyramid. These cables that fraudulently make you think they are Tivo OEM cables do not have that marking. Plus they are prices $5 higher than Tivo. For those that aren't aware, the TIVO mini has a single proprietary plug for component output and another one for composite output. Works great with Tivo Mini and an SD Television.

A bit of warning, however: The Tivo Mini ships with a high-definiton default output format for the Component (Red/Green/Blue) output. Therefore, you will not get a picture at first on a Standard Definition TV using the Component output. If you do the initial setup using the Composite cable (Red/White/Yellow), and set the Tivo Mini to output only 480i, you can then use the Component cable for a superior picture.

Also keep in mind that the audio signal is only available on the Red/White pair on the Composite cable (the Component cable does not have audio), so you will need to use that cable in conjunction with the Component cable. Plus they are prices $5 higher than Tivo. Maybe it was nostalgia, but I wanted to keep at least one working Analog TV. In August of 2016, I still had two of these 150 LB beasts and they worked great. The problem with keeping them was to figure out how to get all the modern features and on demand applications, like Amazon Video, to work on an old school Analog TV. The answer for me was Tivo and this cable. Brilliant kit. Depending on how old your non-HDMI TV is and what TiVo device you're trying to connect, you probably will not need all the connections provided.

But this kit makes sense - rather than cataloging 36 different possible configurations, all reasonably conceivable composite/component/audio connections are provided. So what if one or two connectors dangle unused from the back of your old Magnavox?

Save yourself an hour of standing in the Radio Shack A/V isle trying to figure out which three adapter cables you need to splice together while some clueless employee feeds you bad advice. Just buy this and get up and running.Big fan of weaKnees.

They have everything you need to keep your old discontinued TiVo stuff operable, plus good help articles and technical data. We cut the cord and have a TiVo OTA in our upstairs family room. We also have a media room downstairs with a projector, sound system, and screen. We decided to get a TiVo mini for this room and realized we didn't have a connector for the TiVo Mini to the sound system (Onkyo from like, 10 years ago). After searching around, and realizing that the TiVo Mini didn't have an optical audio connector or use any of the speaker cables like we had been using, we realized this was the best option for us.

It works perfectly without any issues. If you are using a Tivo Mini on an older TV w/o an HDMI input, then you will need this cable set. One cable is needed for analog L/R stereo audio and Composite video. The 2nd cable is only needed when you desire a much higher quality analog video interface using Component video.

In summary, you don't need the 2nd cable if you are using the Composite video input on your TV and you need both cables if using the Component video input. These cables are perfect for older TVs. I'm using them on my older HDTV with component video inputs.
