Select “Allow remote connections to this computer” and the option below it, “Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication.”. By default, Remote Desktop listens on port 3389.
I cannot use the Remote Desktop service on my Windows 7 Professional machine. When I noticed the issue I initially thought the problem was in my router, but I have double-checked the port-forwarding settings and they are correct. I have also plugged the machine into the modem directly. Doing both those steps I was still unable toconnect from outside the LAN.I attempted to connect to the Windows 7 machine from a Windows Vista machine inside the LAN, and was unable to connect. At this point I double-checked that the Remote Desktop option was checked, and that the Terminal Service was running.
When I ran netstat-na, port 3389 is not listening.Windows Firewall is disabled for Public and Private networks and I have no third-party firewall or anti-virus that would be blocking that port (I use ESET NOD plain AV, no firewall). Based on reading several threads about the problem, I have tried enablingWindows Firewall with Remote Desktop allowed but that did not work. I tried turning off Remote Desktop setting, rebooting, turning Remote Desktop on, rebooting, but that didn't work. I tried restarting the TermService service but that didn't work. I changedthe port number in the registry editor, but that didn't work either.I've uploaded a screenshot with all the relevant settings showing here: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/7779/3389.png.
